Let’s Watch The Sunrise Together
Itasca, IL
Spent part of Memorial Day weekend in the Chicagoland area.  This time around we stayed at a hotel in the burbs, which apparently was hosting what seemed like hundreds of kids attending a soccer tournament.  You could see them running around in pajamas in every single floor.
At least there was peace early in the morning.  There was a ‘garden’ behind the hotel, encircled by a bunch of office buildings.  With perfectly manicured lawns and a pond that seemed a tad too perfect (except for the drainage opening for storm water runoff), I’d say:
“Welcome to suburbia”

Guiding The Light
Fullerton Beach, Chicago, IL
Recently I received a rather nondescript piece of mail.  What appeared to be another piece of junk mail was actually a check from Fine Art America, for a photograph that I had apparently sold!  Someone had bought a 30x20 metal print of a long exposure shot taken at this very same spot.  Up to that point, I had completely neglected my Fine Art America page.
Here is the link to the photograph in question.

Electric City
Chicago, IL
We seem to be going back to Chicago every few weeks, either to take care of errands, meet up with friends, or just to enjoy the city life.  The 2.5 hour drive no longer intimidate us, and I don’t mind traveling back and forth in a day.

Rising To The Occasion
Navy Pier, Chicago, IL.
Taken above the parking lot.  I was not certain if it was open that early in the morning, but I overcame the fear of getting caught as I did not want to lose the opportunity to shoot the Chicago skyline from the Pier.

As A New Day Welcomes Us
Taken during one of my final weekends in Chicago.
To my surprise, I’m not feeling totally devastated about no longer living in an urban area.  So far I’m enjoying the outdoors and exploring my new surroundings.  It can be pretty inconvenient though, as we drove close to an hour today to get to the nearest Trader Joe’s.

What The Future Holds For Us
In just a couple of weeks, my family and I will be moving up to Wisconsin.  I’ll therefore be leaving this city I’ve called home for the past 14 years.  For someone who’s always lived in an urban setting, I’m feeling pretty anxious!
One of the things that I’ll miss the most is the opportunity to photograph the beautiful city of Chicago.  For the past couple of weeks, I’ve been waking up early every weekend to capture the sunrise, realizing that soon I might not have the opportunity to do so anymore.
To mark this occasion, I’m offering a 25% discount on prints purchased via my website danielchen.smugmug.com, by using the promo code: DCP25
